Southern Company’s 2022 Year in Review chronicles progress across the system in areas like emissions reduction goals; research and development; and diversity, equity and inclusion.
Southern Company was named the No. 2 Best Large Employer in America in Forbes magazine's 2022 rankings.
“This was a particularly gratifying honor because it was directly based on employee feedback,” said Chairman, President and CEO of Southern Company Tom Fanning. “Southern Company is committed to creating a workplace where all groups are well represented, included and fairly treated within all levels of the organization.”
As for reliability and resilience, Southern Company system’s operations team, generation fleet and power delivery system kept lights on in the Southeast during uncertain times. Teams met peak demand of 41,376 megawatts amid record-breaking heat during the summer and a preliminary peak December demand of 37,577 megawatts Christmas weekend.
Progress also continued on Vogtle Units 3 and 4, and a milestone was achieved when fuel load was completed at Vogtle Unit 3 in October. Once both units are online, they are expected to provide affordable, reliable and emissions-free electricity for the next 60-80 years.
