Southern Company Services' (SCS) Fuel Services organization acts on behalf of Southern Company operating subsidiaries to procure fuel reliably, prudently and economically for fossil fuel generating plants across the Southern Company system.
After receipt of a Request for Proposal (RFP), the fuel supplier should submit a bid as stated in the RFP (using either the online bid submissions form or via mail) prior to the bid closing date specified on the request.
Bids are initially evaluated based on seller-supplied information regarding price, quantity, quality, deliverability, transportation, etc. In addition, a technical evaluation, including a mine visit and/or test burn, may be required.
After receipt of a request for proposal (RFP), the fuel supplier should submit a bid per the instructions on the RFP prior to the specified closing date. An existing North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) agreement is required in order to submit a bid.
Bids are initially evaluated based on seller-supplied information regarding price, quantity, deliverability, transportation, etc.
Purchases are awarded based on the most attractive total package, including price, quantity, reliability, flexibility, etc. Southern Company Services reserves the right to reject any and all bid proposals.
Southern Company Services (SCS) acts as agent in the procurement of natural gas, pipeline transportation services and natural gas storage services for Alabama Power Company, Georgia Power Company, Gulf Power Company, Mississippi Power Company and Southern Power Company.
Southern Company Services purchases gas supply on a spot and contract basis from a variety of supply locations, including Gulf of Mexico production and on-shore shale production in the Marcellus/Uinta mid-continent, ensuring a diverse supply mix both currently zand in the future. Additionally, SCS has contracted for firm transportation on several different gas pipelines under long-term service agreements, ensuring Southern Company's ability to deliver gas supply to its electric generation facilities.
Our policy is to secure natural gas of acceptable quality and quantity at the lowest evaluated cost. To accomplish this, SCS solicits Requests for Proposals (RFP) on a competitive bid basis. By doing so, SCS provides opportunities for all reputable suppliers to participate in the procurement process. In addition, SCS accepts unsolicited bids at any time. They may be submitted to the gas procurement department by fax (205-257-6167) or by contacting an approved trader in the list of approved traders.
