Black Enterprise names Southern Company to “50 Best Companies for Diversity” list
<p>In its December 2018 issue, Black Enterprise recognized Southern Company on the magazine’s annual “50 Best Companies For Diversity” list. This is the third consecutive year Southern Company has been named among the best companies in the country in diversity and inclusion. Black Enterprise noted that corporations honored demonstrate a significant commitment to diversity in four key areas: board of directors, employee base, senior management, and supplier diversity.</p>
<p>“Since 2005, this list has identified corporations that prove to be the best of the best in developing a culture and executing policies that promoted inclusion of ethnic minority groups within their workforce, senior management ranks, corporate boards, and supplier pools,” the magazine wrote. “This year's roster of companies recognized the value of the link between diversity and engagement, which is driven by corporate leadership.”</p>
<p>Each year, Black Enterprise’s editorial research team, in partnership with the Executive Leadership Council, sends a survey to the nation’s top 1,000 publicly traded companies to determine which companies demonstrate a commitment to diversifying their ranks and creating programs that nurture and maintain an inclusive professional space. The annual survey is centered around efforts focused on African Americans but includes other ethnic minority groups as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau.</p>
<p>“At Southern Company, we drive results by valuing different opinions, backgrounds and experiences, and by welcoming diverse points of view,” said Sloane Evans, senior vice president of Human Resources. “We are honored to once again receive this recognition from Black Enterprise as this award underscores our continued efforts and commitment to building a more diverse and inclusive organization.”</p>
