Southern Telecom completes key installation in Atlanta

<p>Southern Telecom, a subsidiary of Southern Company, today announced it has completed a 528-count fiber installation in Colo Atl's carrier-neutral co-location facility at the 55 Marietta Street building in downtown Atlanta. This installation will deliver significant dark fiber connectivity for current and future Colo Atl customers inside and outside of the facility.</p>
<p>&quot;Colo Atl's downtown Atlanta facility serves as one of our strategic points of presence on our metro fiber ring that connects Atlanta with numerous other cities in the Southeast,&quot; said Southern Telecom business development manager Leif Ericson. &quot;In addition to its ideal location, Colo Atl bands together a wealth of telecom providers and enterprises, enhancing our ability to collaborate in serving customers.&quot;</p>
<p>Southern Telecom has installed 1,300 route miles in the Southeast, with long-haul routes connecting Atlanta's central business district fiber ring, the Macon, Georgia, business district and the Jacksonville, Florida, business district fiber ring. The company provides a full suite of solutions that include dark fiber and long-haul/metro optical cross connects.</p>
<p>Colo Atl was founded in November 2001 and serves as a cost-effective interconnection environment for more than 80 local, regional and global network operators. The facility is home to the Georgia Technology Center, a test bed and live production facility for network communications equipment and the Southeast Network Access Point (SNAP). SNAP provides next-generation Internet exchange solutions, including SDN peering, testing and implementation.</p>
